Charafantah's Cave

If anything can go wrong, it will, at the most inopportune time.

First of all, that new sprite with extra soda and extra lemon is not different than normal sprite in any other way. it’s just another stupid marketing campaign to revive the “wave”

Now to the stupid part, have you listened to their ads on the radio? with their motto “Ana keda Ana Sprite”

Here are some samples of their ads:

  • Some “cool” “sprite” guy gets in the elevator to find Razan with him
  • His options were: 1- act like he doesn’t know her. 2- Tell her he’s a big fan.
  • He went with 3- Stop the elevator and go chatting with her

Morale of the story, he just stopped an elevator, wasting everyone’s waiting for the elevator time, just so he can do what he likes and chat with a celeb. (Screw everyone else, put people lifes in danger, you are better than everyone else)

  • The “cool” “sprite” guy went to the beach with friends
  • The bouncers wouldn’t allow him because he didn’t have a pass card
  • His options were: 1- Go to another public beach. 2- Something stupid i don’t remember
  • He went with 3- He disguised as a member of the band and went through

Morale of the story: it is ok to break the rules, cheat and probably steal, as long as you feel it’s ok and that you want something so bad. Also, it is ok to mock poor people because they go to a public beach.

  • The “cool” “sprite” guy called his girlfriend and told her he misses her and want to see her
  • Only to find out it’s her mother who answered the phone
  • His options were: 1- Hang up. 2- Tell her i want to speak to “Laila” in cold blood
  • He went with 3- Changed his phone number, and changed Laila.

Morale of the story: It’s very normal to end up a relationship with someone, just because you’re bored, screw their lives and emotions. Just ignore her, change your number and dump her.

And i got a video for a 4th one here (click the image):

So i guess thats very much how most of the youth now think:

  • No rules, am free to do whatever i like as long as i want to do it
  • Screw the others, F**** them, as long as i do what i want and am happy with it
  • Do not respect the others, because they don’t deserve it, you’re better
  • It is very normal to be rude, to ignore people and to mock them.

Here is a story that happened to me yesterday:

It was 1:00am and i was in my car with a friend, parking near my home and getting ready to leave, to find a young kid (10-12 years old) lying on the floor, and 3 other older boys (14-16) beating the crap out of him, putting his head in the rubbish bin.

I stepped out of the car, watching with my mouth open for like 10 seconds in shock before i took my first move, the boy was crying and cursing them.

I head to the boys and shout at them asking what the hell is going on, their reply was “wenta mal **** omak”, “malaksh da3wa”, “3ayez eh ya3ny”.

I started to turn red and loose my temper, so one of the boys (seemed to be the oldest and wisest) spoke in a better tone and said that the boy is his brother and that they’re playing and showed me his club membership card (so they’re from good descents) off course i couldn’t believe him, specially that i haven’t seen the young boy’s id or anything. After a few shouts, a worker from the supermarket around the corner came out to check what’s going on…. and he confirmed to me that they are actually brothers.

I was really shocked, for the following reasons:

  • How can boys be so mean and rude to each other?
  • Where in the name of God did 10-12 years old learn to curse like this (شتائم بالأب و الأم و العيلة كلها)
  • How could a responsible parent leave his kids out in the streets after midnight? (my parents set me a limit of 12:00am until my first year in college)!!! it was 10:00pm until preparatory.
  • How can these young boys be rude and shameless to someone much older than them, specially that i was investigating an extreme incident past midnight in the street!!! i was just worried about the young boy!

Looks like 2008 is gonna be a stupid, annoying, dull, unlucky and &*&^#@$ year.
It’s just the 2nd day of the year, and here’s what happened:

Yesterday, i was heading back home from work, having my radio tuned to NileFM, they had this contest of 20questions, where the guy asks the presenters up to 20 questions and he tries to identify the “thing” they are thinking of. If he wins, he gets a 300LE coupon for a fancy Italian restaurant.

I never participate in *ANY* kind of competition on the TV or radio, i never win, and they are fake most of the time (not the one’s on NileFM), but yesterday, i knew the object they are talking about after a few questions, and NONE of the 3 persons who called and played the game knew it.

So i thought i’d send them an SMS and play the game, which i did, but i didn’t have any high hopes that they would call me back, because i know myself, i never win anything!

I was REALLY surprised a few minutes later when they sent an SMS with the following: “will call you soon :) “, i was really in surprised, i thought for a while i must be dreaming! i can’t win anything, it’s against the laws of nature, Charafantah cannot win or get lucky. But it’s sure now, i know the answer, and they just sent an SMS saying they would call, nothing can stop me from winning :)

A minute later, they called, i pickup my cell phone and answer, and…………………NOTHING………….SILENCE
i look at the screen, to find the call is still ringing with a silent tone, i press the answer button again, nothing happens it’s still ringing, the *(@#$% phone freezed.

Am really serious, and i am not making this up!!! Can you imagine that? CAN YOU?

Off course they hang up, i restarted my phone and it came back to normal, i tried to call again, but alas! they had another contestant on the show already, it was already so obvious from the previous contestants, so he answered correctly after 1 try. And he won.

Looks like am having a GREAT start for 2008!

I HATE YOU ALL!!!!!

WOW! i finally got it people!!!!

I am exempted from the army!!!! i went again to the haikesteb today, AND I DID IT!!! I GOT MY EXEMPTION!

I woke up so early today, at 6:30am, headed to Haikesteb, arriving there at 7:15am, it was slightly better than everytime, not very crowded, there was a place to park, and the bus that takes you inside was not so full.

I went to another building to get my papers, and WOW! it’s WAY much better than the other, there are automatic numbers at the door, a soldier as you what you need to do, and he then gives you a printed number, all the windows have a digital display that shows the number being served now, and when it changes, it’s announced on the speakers.

Quite impressive to see something like that there.

I gave him the receipt, and they gave me back the exemption paper after 15 mins, this is the least time i spent waiting in haikesteb, i think it’s a world record. though the guy called my name wrong a few times, but i was ok, nothing bad happens (he insisted my name is Sherif, though it’s clearyly written Achraf in front of him,,,na3mel eh ba2a fel ta3lim el magany التعليم المجانى)

I (again) had to put my finger print (I CAN F*** WRITE YOU IDIOTS) to get the exemption….and i headed to work…

i didnt take long in haikesteb, which made me very happy + getting my exemption =  Happy x Achraf x Happy

I tried to take a short cut through the ring road (الطريق الدائرى) , but i ended up getting in the wrong direction due to the wrong road sign (if you’re coming from the way of Souk El Obour  (سوق العبور) and going to the Airport way, there is a sign that says Alex. Desert Road —-> Right       well, not right, it’s wrong :) actually if you take that right you will end up in the way of Alex. Agriculture Road…..like i did.

well, i was ok, not so pissed of, because i was happy already…i stopped at Emirates gas station, had a nescafe, asked for directions and headed to work.

I only lost like 30mins, which is not really bad.

I also happened to play “Radio Roulette”  with Scott and Heba on NileFM, the song i got was unknown to everyone, but luckily it was good ( i dont remember the artist or song name) but it was fine.

Well, i guess that’s the end of my adventures with Haikesteb and the army…i will start tomorrow my adventures with getting a passport…i hope i suffer less, wish me luck.
